At least eight dead and a dozen wounded in a new shooting in Serbia, the second in two days

Dismay in Serbia. Late this Thursday, the local authorities in Mladenovac, 42 kilometers south of Belgrade, reported a new deadly shooting in the country.

As published by Radio-Televizija Srbije (RTS) on its website, at least eight people died and another ten were injured in the town of Dubona, seven of them seriously, in the Mladenovac region.

The alleged perpetrator of the shots is in search and capture by the state police after fleeing the scene. According to some Serbian media, the attacker fired with an automatic rifle from a moving car and is surrounded, but has not yet been arrested. Likewise, the Telegraf newspaper does not rule out that the alleged perpetrator has hostages.

According to the same outlet, the authorities issued an arrest warrant for a 21-year-old young man, with the acronym B.U, and who drives a Mercedes Benz.

According to the Vecheme Novosti newspaper, the attack began after the alleged perpetrator argued with a police officer. After the brawl, the young man went to his house for the weapon and began shooting at several people.

Among the deceased would be the police officer with whom he argued and his sister. The emergency services are treating the injured, at least a dozen. According to the newspaper 'Blic', among them is a 15-year-old boy.

For its part, the Serbian Interior Ministry issued a statement early Friday morning reporting the shooting. "There are people who do not show signs of life and several were injured," he said. In turn, they activated an operation to surround the gunman. All available police forces in the region are in and around Mladenovac.

In a first balance, there was talk of two deaths and "several injuries", figures that have been increasing and that it is not ruled out that they will continue to rise.

This is the second deadly shooting in the country in two days. Last Wednesday, a 13-year-old boy shot dead nine people and wounded seven others at a Belgrade school before turning himself in.
