Artificial intelligence is the new great demand of manufacturers

In the latest editions of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), since before the pandemic, the term that dominated everything was a number and a letter: 5G. It was everywhere and everyone was showing the advantages of a data connection with a very low delay between transmission and reception. In between, Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse emerged, which swept the 2022 edition and which no one seems to remember anymore.

ChatGPT had already appeared at the 2023 edition of MWC, but just three months apart, exhibitors still had no generative AI products to showcase. Artificial intelligence has arrived on Mobile this year. Unlike Meta's proposal, it is present in a real and practical way in many stands.

Mobile phone manufacturers are the first to show how their devices can do more than improve photos with AI. One of them, Samsung, has launched its new generation Galaxy S24 with new artificial intelligence tools such as simultaneous voice translation.

In the pavilion of the operator Etisalat, from the United Arab Emirates, it exhibits its Ameca robot, an advanced humanoid capable of maintaining conversations with people thanks to the artificial intelligence provided by GPT-4, the model used by ChatGPT. Ingenuity delights the visitors with whom he speaks, since in addition to expressing himself with his voice he does so with hand and arm gestures.

AI is present in what is exhibited in many stands of the most important companies and also in future announcements. Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, announced during one of the congress sessions the company's eleven new principles in a commitment to the development of AI.

These bases affect three large areas: support for artificial intelligence developers, guaranteeing equity in the AI economy and compliance with social responsibilities in relation to this technology, which range from security and transparency to environmental sustainability.

The Chinese manufacturer Oppo yesterday announced a prototype of glasses with integrated artificial intelligence, the Air Glass 3, which weigh only 50 grams and look like normal glasses, but which have an intelligent voice assistant and allow you to control music playback on the phone. , viewing information and navigating between photos.

The use of artificial intelligence in devices is also beginning to influence a fundamental part of the industry, that of chips. There are several models, not only of mobile phones, but also of computers, or both, that are exhibited at the Mobile World Congress that already incorporate specific processors that allow artificial intelligence to work more fluidly. Unlike what has been seen so far, it is a technology that will work integrated into the devices, without the need to connect to external servers. This will allow us to carry a particular AI in our pocket, which adapts to each one of us and knows each user perfectly. We are already close, but that is not for this edition of the MWC.
