Arrested for taking 80,000 euros from the 90-year-old man she cared for in Benidorm

Agents of the National Police have arrested a 52-year-old woman in the town of Benidorm as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of misappropriation, fraud and theft, after allegedly appropriating more than 80,000 euros from the 90-year-old man she was caring for.

The police investigation began after a complaint from the victim's daughter, who stated at police headquarters that since July a woman had been taking care of her father's personal care and, from that moment on, her father's health. had worsened "considerably" and the elderly man was hospitalized, according to the National Police in a statement.

During his stay at the hospital, the victim told his daughter that the caregiver had made certain changes to the elderly man's home, such as replacing the lock on the front door. Therefore, the complainant decided to visit the home to corroborate these facts.

Once inside the house, the victim's daughter confirmed that the chests and safes that belonged to the man were open, without any sign of forced entry and without the 30,000 euros that were inside.

Furthermore, the complainant realized that one of the credit cards owned by her father had disappeared and there had been a change of ownership in one of her father's bank accounts. For this reason, the complainant returned to the Police Station to provide further information to the investigators.

The agents carried out the police investigation procedures with the bank and corroborated that the now detained woman allegedly tried to withdraw 800 euros from the card owned by the elderly man, but in the end it was not possible because she did not know the pin number.

Likewise, they discovered that the person under investigation, a month before, allegedly went in the company of the victim and made him cancel an account of 50,000 euros, with the aim of transferring it and opening a new one where the two of them appeared as owners. In this way, she managed to have full control of that money.

Finally, the police obtained the necessary documentary evidence to reliably corroborate the criminal act, as well as the full identification of the perpetrator of the infractions, for which they proceeded to her immediate arrest. The detainee, 52 years old, was placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court on guard duty in Benidorm.

The agents managed to fully recover the stolen money, which was again deposited into the victim's account. The investigation has been carried out by agents from Group V of the Judicial Police of the National Police Station in Benidorm, in charge of investigating property crimes.
