He knew very early what his vocation was and revealed himself at 15 years and one day as an actor and composer (he opted for the Goya with his song). As a teenager he went through a period of crisis, addictions and depression. He surpassed the stage and soon the media explosion would come: Elite turned him into the emerging actor that he is. Regular in fashion shows, image of brands, he adds notable works (Fatum, The mess you leave, The silence...).
With a German father and Spanish mother, Arón Piper was born 26 years ago in Berlin, he lived in Barcelona and La Garrotxa (Girona), where he retains some Catalan (“no me’n remember de tot”) and Avilés. Today, from his house in Madrid, he chats with Magazine about his imminent leap as a musician and about El Correo, by Daniel Calparsoro, where he shines alongside Luis Tosar, María Pedraza and Luis Zahera. A fast-paced film about the real estate bubble of 2000, corruption and money laundering mafias and suitcases full of black money in Marbella, Brussels and Geneva.
What attracted you to this story?
Although I was a child, I remember the crisis of 2008, the unemployment; There was no talk of anything else. Today corruption continues, but it is seen worse, then it was very shameless. The film talks about that shocking stage, but it does so with a satirical tone, with the help of a character who is cool to accompany on that journey. I am very proud of the result, I say it from the bottom of my heart.
Iván, his character, rejects that “honest job” that did not solve his father's life. An idea that resonates with young people whose salaries do not allow them to become independent?
That's true, but in the film my father also takes advantage of a system that was bad and it was already clear that it was going to explode somewhere. The important thing is not to repeat it. I know that the situation is complex for many young people. I encourage everyone to fight for what they want to be and with what they also have to do.
From Elite he enjoys fame, money, fans... One day he said that "it's crazy what they pay you." How are you living it?
It's crazy not what they pay me, but what they charge for certain jobs. I'm amazed, I come from a humble family, from a medium to low purchasing power level. I enjoy this stage because I have my family and a circle of friends who were already there before fame and with whom we experienced everything together. That environment keeps my feet on the ground.
What did you want to be before, musician or actor?
I wanted to be an actor since I was a child. My father is a film and television editor and I experienced that interest at home. I started music at twelve.
He lived a turbulent adolescence...
Existential crisis, as happens to many young people, finding oneself. It was a few years of transit to see what I was going to do with my life. I felt without motivation, without direction, without a future... That's hard.
What made you redirect your life?
Well, my parents gave me an ultimatum: either you finish your studies or you leave home. They have always supported me to follow what I like and told me: “If what you want is to act, you go to Madrid, we will help you in any way we can.” That's how I got my bearings again.
With therapy? In an interview I read that it had not been useful to him.
You're going to read so many absurd things!... What's wrong, in fact I'm going to therapy and I think it would be good for everyone. It helps me manage my daily life, my emotions and navigate my life better, it is another tool.
Are you living your best stage?
I feel at my best, but I don't see a ceiling. I'm going to keep climbing as long as I can. Ambitious? Yes I am.
“I want it all,” as your character says in The Courier?
Yes, I want it all, but if I don't have it, great, you know? If I am left penniless and without a job again I will manage too. I've already lived it and I know I can handle it. This is a happy moment, I don't think it's going to go badly for me, but if it happens, if one falls, then you have to get up.
Have you gotten what you wanted?
Yes, although I want more and above all I want to do my job as best as I can. It's not an ambition like: “If I don't get to the top I won't be happy,” but I'm going to try.
As a musician he has edited urban style and trap albums. Now he's preparing a “leap” in his career... In what sense?
A new album, of which I already have 85% ready, with the Latin producer Manu Lara. Within two months we will release a preview, a song. Nothing to do with the above, it is a turning point. More pop, postpunk, pop rock, indie, less urban and trap music.
In accordance with your personal evolution?
Exact. It is a bit of a reflection of where I am right now, what I want to convey.
And where is?
In one of my happiest stages. There are always things, the human being in itself is not conformist, one always seeks happiness, but if I look at it from an objective point of view I think I am in one of my best times.
And sentimentally? In love?
Well now I'm alone and very comfortable.
What adjectives would you describe yourself with?
Reserved, with a sense of humor when there is confidence... I go quite my way and I am almost always clear about what I want.
A defect?
Many, I don't know. Unpunctuality, for example. I manage time badly, wow. I want to do more things than I can.
How did Elite's success change you?
It has given me confidence, to think that if I am where I am it is because I have been lucky but also because I have worked hard. It is a consequence of work and there is nothing more.
How do you handle being stopped on the street?
Sometimes I get overwhelmed when they ask for photos, but it's what it has to do, each job has its things. In the balance, the good wins.
And dance with Dua Lipa and go viral?
I can understand that there are people who are interested or morbid, or who are very bored...
Take care? Cosmetics, sports...
What's up, zero! I put on a face cream after I shower and go to the gym twice a week; I do boxing, but nothing obsessive, more disconnection than anything else.
What do you value in others?
Above all, people know how to listen, care and authenticity. And the little nonsense.
What upsets you about current events?
Many things. The cruelty of human beings, the brutal dehumanization of which we are capable... I think the world is at a delicate point, let's see where it goes. I have hope, but... I'm also worried about the networks, which drive us a little crazy.
Do you avoid giving your opinion on social networks?
I do not give opinions on topics that I do not know in depth; Many people follow me and I must be able to refute an issue, if necessary, in front of millions of people. I know that I have a very powerful tool in my hands, which can open the eyes of many people, but I think that before being an activist with anything, you have to learn to manage your own life, and from there, look outward.
What would you change if you had power?
The education. I would teach values, emotions, empathy, that everyone knows how to make their decisions and create their own principles.
