Armengol announces that Sánchez's investiture debate will be held on Wednesday and Thursday

The investiture debate of Pedro Sánchez will take place next Wednesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 16, as announced by the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, this morning. Previously, it is expected that this Monday the proposed amnesty law for those prosecuted by the process will be registered.

The investiture debate of the PSOE leader will begin this Wednesday, at 12 noon, with a speech in which the candidate will present his government program, without a time limit. After a break, on Wednesday afternoon the interventions of the spokespersons of all parliamentary groups will begin, from largest to smallest. First of all, therefore, the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will speak. Group interventions will resume on Thursday morning. And the vote is scheduled for this Thursday, although Armengol has admitted that the time cannot be determined, given that the candidate's speaking times are not limited.

Armengol has communicated that the candidate for the investiture, Sánchez, has already finished his round of negotiations with the Congressional groups that will support his re-election, and that he is now ready to submit to the investiture.

The president of Congress has taken advantage of her appearance to make two considerations in relation to the protests that are taking place throughout Spain against the amnesty law that is going to be registered imminently and against Sánchez's own investiture. Armengol has highlighted that she herself believes a lot in dialogue and, in this sense, has warned that "some statements" of these days, "rather than unite they separate" and has pointed out that this "is never good" and "urges tension and division".

For this reason, Armengol has called for "appreciating as never before" institutions and dialogue. Likewise, he has "strongly" condemned any type of "aggression, violence and disregard for public order as we have experienced in recent days."

Pedro Sánchez, who this morning brought together the federal executive of the PSOE in Ferraz, last week already closed the necessary support to win his investiture, by absolute majority and, therefore, in the first vote. In total, he has 179 votes in favor of his re-election, with the signed agreements. The transversal yes bloc is thus made up of the Socialist Group (121 seats), Sumar (31), Esquerra Republicana (7), Junts per Catalunya (7), EH Bildu (6), the PNV (5), the BNG (1), and Canarian Coalition (1). The no block to Sánchez's investiture only adds up to 171 votes. They are those of the Popular Party (137), the extreme right of Vox (33) and the Navarro People's Union (1).

Once Armengol communicates the result of the vote to the King, and it is published with his signature in the Official State Gazette (BOE), Sánchez himself, as planned, will take office. The leader of the PSOE could then announce the composition of his new progressive coalition government, even during next weekend. The new ministers would take office from that moment on, so that next Tuesday the new Council of Ministers could meet.
