Architecture as the protagonist in the 48h Open House Barcelona

The architectural festival 48h Open House Barcelona presents its fourteenth edition this weekend in which, as every year, it will allow visitors to visit emblematic buildings that are not usually open to the public.

In total, this edition's program has 195 activities and 18 itineraries spread over the seven cities that make up the festival: Barcelona, Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Joan Despí, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Vilassar de Dalt and Sitges.

Among the nearly 200 buildings that can be visited, the Torre Baró castle in the Nou Barris neighborhood, the Palau Macaya and the Alcantarillado network in the Eixample or the Torre de les Aigües del Tibidabo on the Vallvidrera road stand out. You can also visit other types of buildings such as Casa Seat or Casa de les Punxes on Diagonal, buildings that currently serve as offices.

Just as last year the festival focused on the crafts that make up architecture, this year the 48h Open House Barcelona will try to delve into the micronarratives that can be extracted from every detail of the buildings. In this way, this edition aims to deconstruct the architecture of our imagination to see the fragments that make up the city of Barcelona.

One of the main novelties this year is that the organization of the festival has been around the figure of Lluís Domènech i Montaner, architect of buildings such as the Palau de la Música Catalana or the Hospital de Sant Pau. The festival will allow access to some of his buildings with the aim of explaining his career as a reflection of general art, since his works include mosaics, display cases, sculptures and ceramic pieces.

Also this year the 48h Open House Barcelona joins the eighteenth of the Barcelona Design Week to highlight the values and importance of the design of an associative, community, self-built, modular housing project, with recycled materials, low budget and ecological.

Related to this initiative, the festival will have 37 residential buildings to visit, some examples are the Passivhaus home in Poblenou, the Oasi home in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat or the Mont-regenques home in the Putxet neighborhood.
