Antònia Font will gather 26,000 people this Saturday in a free concert in Palma

Antònia Font opens the musical year in Palma with a massive concert this Saturday in which more than 26,000 attendees are expected. The Palma City Council, organizer of the event for which she has paid 341,000 euros, has had to change the location and increase the capacity due to the forecast that the space in which the performance will be held will be full.

The Majorcans return to play in their land after their performance this summer in Inca in which they gathered more than 12,000 people. This Saturday's concert will be one of the most massive that has been held in Mallorca in its entire history and the Balearic Government and the Palma City Council have had to enable reinforcements in train and bus transport for those who want to attend the concert.

The concert is part of the Sant Sebastià de Palma festivities, in which traditionally there are musical performances in the main squares of the Balearic capital. However, in this case they wanted to make a difference with the Mallorcan group given their proven ability to gather crowds.

Those attending the concert will not pay a ticket as it is the Palma City Council that assumes all expenses. The figure to be paid for a single concert has raised criticism among some cultural sectors of the city, who believe that the price is excessive for a single performance in Palma.

The promoters of the concert ensure that the price is adjusted to the cache of the musicians and the production cost of a concert of these characteristics, with capacity control, security, bars, sound equipment and others.

Criticism has also come from sectors on the right of Palma City Council. The Vox councilor in the city and candidate for mayor in the next elections denounced that Palma spent 341,000 euros on a single performance by a group. He affirmed that a group "that nobody knows" and that only sings "in Catalan" should be hired.
