Alicante and València increase their hotel income by almost a third compared to the pre-pandemic summer

In a general context of optimism and good economic results for the hotel sector, the latest Exceltur report highlights that València and Alicante, the main urban destinations in the Valencian Community. They are the ones that foresee the best results for the remainder of the year and are among the five in Spain that have increased their income the most compared to the summer before the pandemic, that of 2019, taken as a reference to study the evolution of national tourism after the traumatic coronavirus episode.

The hotels in the city of Alicante - which this year opened its second 5-star hotel - were the ones that obtained the most income per available room this summer: 107.6 euros; That is 25.1 euros more than in 2019, an increase of 30.4%. Only San Sebastián, Málaga and Palma de Mallorca, which were already notoriously more expensive cities (Donosti charged 190 euros per room), have increased their income more.

Slightly behind is Valencia. Hotels in the capital have earned an average of 102 euros per room, 22.7 euros more than in the summer of 2019, 28.4% more than then. València is thus close to the average income of Santander and Bilbao, still above although they have grown by just 5%.

The coastal area that has increased its profitability the most, the Costa Blanca, has done so by an amount very similar to that of Valencia, 22 euros more to reach 104.2 euros per room, 26.7% more than in 2019 .

Exceltur highlights that the summer balance is especially positive in the northern communities less exposed to heat waves (Basque Country 27.4%, Galicia 27.0%, Asturias 26.1% and Cantabria 15.6%), in the island destinations (Balearic Islands 22.8% and Canary Islands 19.4%) thanks to the greater strength of foreign demand, and those of the Mediterranean Coast (the Valencian Community 16.8%, Andalusia 16.0% and Catalonia 15. 5%), within a great September and a lengthening of the season.

This phenomenon, the prolongation of the summer weather, has continued in October, which is why the report predicts that the last quarter will also offer notable increases in the profitability of establishments on the coast and cities of the Mediterranean coast.

In fact, it is the hotel companies in the Valencian cities that foresee a greater increase in their sales in the last three months of the year (27.6%), even more so than such dynamic destinations as the Canary Islands (26.3%), the Balearic Islands (23.7%), Madrid (19.7%), Barcelona (17.1%) and the Andalusian coast (15.9%).
