Aemet projects a dry January in the Valencian Community

The storm "Juan" has left weak and moderate rains in the Valencian Community but despite them, the beginning of the hydrological year (October to January), continues to be the driest since at least 1950, and by far with respect to the next driest, which was 1974-1975.

After a night of intense sea storm due to the storm "Juan", the sea continued to be "very disturbed" this Saturday with strong swells and waves of up to two meters that reached a maximum height of 6.3 meters during the night. last morning, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency.

According to the data collected by State Ports, in the Valencia buoy that records the values, the maximum height occurred at 2:00 a.m. when there was strong seas. On average the values have remained at a height of 2.1 meters.

The storm "Juan" that has passed through the Valencian Community without causing major damage has left widespread rainfall in the province of Castellón, in Valencia and in the north of Alicante.

In Oliva, 44.8 liters per square meter were collected; in Zarra 38.6; in the Vall de la Gallinera 37.8; in Vall de Laguar 36; n Agres 32.4; in Pego 31.8; in Barx 31; in Murla 29.2; in Miramar 28.4; in Ayora, 23.4; in Ontinyent 23 and in Carcaixent and Moixent 22.8.

In Alicante, rainfall was scarce on the coast and in the southern area, where there are places where it did not rain or the rain was negligible. Thus, for example, in Novelda, Orihuela or Rojales no precipitation was collected.

In the city of Valencia, 8.7 liters per square meter have been collected and 10.1 at the airport. It is not a significant amount but "it is already more than everything that had accumulated in the last 4 months, since September 20." In that period of 121 days, 7.2 l/m² had been registered in Valencia and 6.5 at the airport.

While in Castelló de la Plana 7.8 l/m² have been accumulated, compared to the 16.4 that had accumulated in the last 121 days. In general, although it did not rain much, only yesterday the same amount accumulated as everything that had accumulated in the current hydrological year, since October 1, 2023, but it is a "clearly insufficient" amount to compensate for the accumulated deficit.

The average amount of precipitation accumulated yesterday in the Valencian Community was 15 l/m². Since October 1, 2023, the average accumulated precipitation is 30 l/m², compared to 204.7, which would be the normal value for these 4 months, so the deficit is 86%.

Starting today, the territory enters a period of stability, dominated by the presence of a powerful anticyclone in the south of the continent, so the probability of precipitation over the next few days is very low or non-existent. From AEMET they encouraged yesterday to "enjoy the rain" because "it is likely that we will not do it again for the rest of the month."
