Four children have been hacked to death this Wednesday in a Brazilian nursery by a 25-year-old young man. Four other minors have been injured.
The attack occurred in the city of Blumenau, in the southern state of Santa Catarina, when a man broke into the kindergarten early in the morning after jumping over a wall in the privately owned Cantinho Bom Pastor center.
The attacker, who turned himself in to the police, hit the children on the head. His motivations are unknown. The dead are between 5 and 7 years old and are three boys and a girl. Meanwhile, the four injured are two boys and two girls.
The parents of the children who attend the nursery crowded at the school doors when they heard the news and at 10 in the morning (local time) they had already been able to remove all the minors who were not affected.
The event has caused consternation in the country. The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reacted with regret. “There is no greater pain than that of a family that loses its children or grandchildren, even more so if it is an act of violence against innocent and defenseless children. My condolences and prayers are with the families of the victims and the community of Blumenau in the face of the monstrosity that occurred at the Bom Pastor day care center," the president tweeted.
This attack comes ten days after another that took place at a school in São Paulo, where a 13-year-old teenager stabbed a teacher to death and injured four other people.
