A young Catalan man, called Pau, 26 years old, has died while fighting in the war in Ukraine, where he went as a volunteer to confront the Russian invasion. The family of the deceased has been informed and the body will be repatriated, as confirmed by sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pau moved to Ukraine in May 2022, a few months after the armed conflict broke out, according to ministerial sources. He was trained, along with 11 other Spaniards, in a military training camp near Lviv, until he joined the Foreign Legion of the Ukrainian Army.
In June 2022, another Spanish volunteer combatant, from Mallorca, who had traveled to Ukraine to participate in the war, also lost his life.
Also the director of the NGO Road to Relief, Emma Igual, died on September 10 when the vehicle she was traveling in was hit by a Russian projectile near Chasiv Yar, in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine. .
