A woman dies in a work accident at a recycling plant in Vacarisses

A woman has died in an occupational accident that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, November 17 at the Waste Treatment Center of Vallès Occidental (CTR-Vallès), located in Vacarisses.

The town councils of Vacarisses and Terrassa have reported this accident this Saturday and have conveyed their regret over the death to the victim's family and those around him.

The woman, 44 years old and a resident of Terrassa, suffered the work accident when she was manipulating a machine in the center, which depends on recycling, as sources from the Vacarisense administration have explained to the media. Sources close to the family have reported to Diari de Terrassa that the employee “died crushed by a press that did not comply with the relevant security measures.” Although no further details of the fatal accident have been provided.

As a public display of mourning, the Egarense City Council has called for next Monday, at 12:00 p.m., a minute of silence in front of the Raval de Montserrat town hall building.

The Vallès Occidental Waste Management Center (CTR-Vallès) is a publicly owned facility dependent on the Regional Council of Vallès Occidental and allows waste to be treated to obtain recoverable materials and guarantee that no waste reaches its final destination without first go through a process that ensures maximum use and the safety of the output flows.

According to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, 524 people have died in Spain due to work-related accidents in the nine months of this year; 55 in Catalonia.
