A success lived with popular passion

Thousands of people gathered in front of giant screens put up by town halls in different parts of the Spanish geography to see live the impressive victory with which Spain was proclaimed champion in the World Cup. Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia were the cities where the most people gathered to watch the game.

At the WiZink Center in Madrid, the Palacio de los Deportes on Calle Goya, the seven thousand seats made available to fans for free sold out in less than an hour. There were so many who attended the event that several hundred had to settle for watching the event on televisions in the bars in the vicinity of the pavilion.

As soon as the match ended, both inside and outside WiZink, the audience broke into song with the refrains of “I am Spanish, Spanish” or “my great night” to celebrate a historic victory.

Some 1,200 people watched the final on the giant screen that Barcelona City Council installed in the Vall d'Hebron Olympic Sports Center. Among the public were the Councilor for Sports, David Escudé, and the councilor for the Horta-Guinardó district, Lluís Rabell. Access was free, with a capacity of 2,000 people.

In Porto (Mallorca), the final brought together hundreds of euphoric fans in front of the giant screens installed in Palma, Felanitx and Porto to see the national team of Jorge Vilda and the Majorcans Cata Coll and Mariona Caldentey in action. In the Balearic capital, fans watched the game at the Polideportivo Son Moix.

There were also giant screens to watch the game in La Fonteta (Valencia), in Zaragoza, in Castellón, in Pontevedra, in Santander and in many Castilian-Leonese towns, such as Burgos, Valladolid, Soria, Segovia and the Zamora town of Benavente, as well as as in others distributed throughout the national geography.
