A PSOE deputy investigated in the anti-fraud operation carried out in the Canary Islands resigns

The socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes has resigned his seat in Congress after being implicated in an anti-fraud operation carried out in the Canary Islands and which has resulted in the arrest of a former director general of the Canarian Government and a retired Civil Guard general under investigation for its alleged relationship with the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, fraud and bribery.

Juan Bernardo Fuentes, who was a deputy for the province of Las Palmas, was general director of Livestock and was replaced in office by his nephew Taishet Fuentes, who is the main person investigated in the plot for an alleged fraud in food product subsidies.

Specifically, Taishet Fuentes was one of the 12 arrested this Tuesday in the framework of an operation related to alleged irregularities in the management of subsidies linked to food products in various Spanish provinces, according to the regional newspaper Canarias7.

Sources close to the investigation have told EFE that it is an operation that is still open in which alleged irregularities in the management of European subsidies linked to food products are being investigated.

The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has confirmed that the proceedings are supervised by the Investigating Court number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and that, of the twelve arrests, two have been made on the islands and ten other Spanish provinces

Regarding Juan Bernardo Fuentes, after learning about his investigation, the deputy was suspended from militancy by the PSOE and has submitted his resignation from the seat, as confirmed to Europa Press by socialist sources.
