A novel set in the Albufera during the Franco era wins the Ciutat d'Alzira prize

The writer Víctor Labrado has won the Ciutat d'Alzira Novel award with 'Nascuts del fang', a story set in the Albufera during the Franco regime. The hard life in the wetlands, family secrets and the relationships between owners and day laborers star in an "unforgettable story."

The commitment to tradition, the defense of the territory and the language have played a role in the 35th edition of the Ciutat d'Alzira Literary Awards, which was held yesterday Friday in the Sala Rex Natura and which brought together around 600 attendees.

The Essay award went to Maria Josepa Payà for 'Terra endins'. Thinking about the future from the village', a work that helps to understand rural areas and the people who live in them. In this modality, "before the quality of the works presented", the jury has decided to proclaim Francesc Gisbert as a finalist with 'The linguistic resistance: a world of languages', which will also be published by Bromera.

The European Award for Scientific Disclosure General Studies has gone to Francesc Lloret with the work 'A magnetic world: the presence of magnets in our lives', a work that focuses on the presence of magnetic energy in different areas of life , as indicated by the publisher.

Another of the awards that was announced during the night was the Ibn Hafaja Poetry Prize, which the writer Marià Veloy won with the work 'El pianista a l'armari', an intimate expression to refer to writing as a solitary activity, hidden and far from what we know as reality.

The winners collected the statuette designed by Manuel Boix in a gala marked by the sense of humor of the presenter Lluís Cascant and enlivened by the musical performance of La María.

Among those attending the gala, there were representatives of different entities and institutions of Valencian culture, mayors and councilors of the region, and authorities, such as the director general of the Libro, el Comic y el Fomento de la Lectura del Ministerio, Maria José Gálvez; the president of the Valencian Language Academy, Verònica Cantó or the trustee of Compromís en Les Corts, Joan Baldoví.

In this edition a total of 184 works have been presented. This year, the Ciutat d'Alzira Novel Prize has been the category with the most participation, with a total of 49 works presented, followed by the Ibn Hafaja Poetry Prize (with 40 works) and the Palanca i Roca Theater Prize (with 27 works), the Enric Solbes International Prize for Illustrated Album Consorcio Ribera i Valldigna (19 works), the Carme Miquel Prize for Youth Fiction (18) and the Vicent Silvestre Children's Fiction Prize (15 works).
