A mother is arrested for abandoning her youngest son for three days in her home in La Rioja

The Civil Guard has arrested a 49-year-old woman as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of temporary abandonment of a minor by leaving her 12-year-old son alone in her home for three days. Last week, the agents received an alert issued by social workers informing them of the possible situation of homelessness that a minor might be suffering from when he or she was alone in the family home.

A citizen security patrol went to the home where they found the minor alone. He told the agents and social workers that he had been alone in the house for three days because his mother had gone to a town in Valladolid to settle some pending issues and that she had not yet returned, indicating that she had left him 20 euros and that she had already he had spent them. Her mother was located, detained and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, who ordered her release with charges.

The civil guards and workers were able to verify the lack of protection of the minor as he lacked sufficient support for his age, having only six eggs, a package of sausages and a carton of milk in the refrigerator.

The rooms of the house were in acceptable hygiene conditions but with a very low temperature due to the heating being broken, so the minor was referred to the Child Protection Service dependent on the Department of Health and Social Policies of the Government of La Rioja. for their shelter and care.
