National Police agents have arrested a 49-year-old man of Spanish origin for allegedly causing six fires in the Maritime district of Valencia that affected thirteen vehicles.

The police arrested him red-handed on the night of April 1, after placing an incendiary device on the underside of a motorhome, inside which the occupant was located, the National Police has reported.

The arrest occurred within the framework of a device established for this purpose by the National Police, after several vehicle fires occurred in the Marítim area.

Specifically, in the early hours of March 23 there were three fires, in which a van and two cars were completely burned, with the fire affecting three other cars.

Likewise, in June 2023, similar events occurred, when another fire burned a car and affected a motorcycle and two other vehicles near it.

On the night of April 1, a new fire occurred, affecting a van and a second vehicle.

The agents carried out surveillance in the area, in order to locate the perpetrator of these events and observed at some point in the early morning how a man approached an area where there were motorhomes and parked vehicles and walked away shortly after.

The police, after seeing the suspicious attitude of this man, approached the place and located an incendiary device on the underside of a motorhome, consisting of a cardboard box with a cloth sling that was burning next to a spray.

They quickly put out the fire while alerting the people inside to safeguard their physical integrity.

Next, with the collaboration of the Local Police, the agents located the suspect in the vicinity, who was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of arson.

After several investigations by the agents of the Maritime Police Station, a total of six fires are attributed to the detainee, which affected thirteen vehicles, a motorhome, two vans, nine passenger cars and a motorcycle.

In all these events, the author used the same modus operandi: he acted at night, in the same streets of the district, placing incendiary devices in the wheels or underside of the vehicles.

The arrested person, with a police record, has been brought to justice, and his imprisonment was ordered.
