A forest fire in Tarifa forces the eviction of 70 people

The forest fire declared this Wednesday in Tarifa (Cádiz) and which remains active today Thursday, has forced the eviction of some 70 people in the El Chaparral neighborhood and the activation of level 1 of the Infoca Plan.

The strong gusts of wind are complicating the work of extinction, since during the last hours the east has exceeded 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 80.

Sources from the Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía in Cádiz have explained that level 1 was activated at 02:33 this morning due to the forest fire that affected the San Bartolomé mountain range, at which time the eviction of the aforementioned neighborhood, according to information from EFE.

The emergency management has evicted 70 people from the El Chaparral neighborhood who have been displaced to the El Tropezón inn, which has been established as a meeting point.

Eleven of the evicted people remained there this morning, another eleven have been transferred to the shelter set up at the headquarters of the Bologna neighborhood association and the rest are staying in the homes of relatives, according to a Europa Press report.

Level 1 of the plan is activated in those fires in which, being able to be controlled with the extinguishing means provided, it is estimated, due to their possible evolution, the need to put into practice measures for the protection of people and non-forest assets.

At sunrise, the reincorporation of two helicopters was scheduled, the same number of aircraft destined for firefighting tasks on Wednesday, although the incorporation of some more is not ruled out.

According to Infoca, the head of the fire is the one with the highest flame activity.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) keeps the yellow level warning for wind active in the area at least until 3:00 p.m. today, Thursday.

The 112 service began receiving the first calls from citizens at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, warning of a fire in a forest area in the Sierra de San Bartolomé in a place known as Betis.

Immediately, from the coordination center room, the Civil Guard, the Firefighters, the Andalusian Emergency Group (GREA) were alerted, who traveled to the area together with the Deputy Director of Emergencies with a technician and two agents.

These troops were joined by the head of the Cádiz Civil Protection service, the provincial coordinator of 112 and a technical advisor for Emergency Management.

The Local Police, the National Police Unit attached to the Autonomous Community and the Infoca Provincial Operations Center (COP) and the Red Cross, required to provide logistical support in the area, also participate.

As a preventive measure, a Critical Care and Emergency Unit of the Andalusian Health Service has also been added.
