A firefighter dies after fainting while working on a fire in Cantabria

A 58-year-old forest firefighter from the Cantabrian municipality of Terán died last Sunday afternoon after fainting while working to extinguish a fire on Mount Llendemozo, in the municipality of Cabuérniga.

The man, with more than 30 years of experience and belonging to the fire brigade based in Ruente, fainted and collapsed to the ground, so his colleagues called the 112 Emergency Care Center and began resuscitation maneuvers.

Given this event, which occurred around 5:00 p.m., the Emergency Department mobilized the medical helicopter team of the Cantabrian Government, the Civil Guard and personnel from the Cantabrian Institute for Safety and Health at Work (ICASST).

Upon arrival in the area, the medical team from the regional helicopter continued with cardiopulmonary resuscitation work on the victim, although in the end they could not do anything to save his life.

The Government of Cantabria has deeply regretted the death of this public employee and has conveyed its affection and support to his family, friends and colleagues.

Likewise, he has recognized the work of the deceased public employee, "with extensive experience and dedication", as well as that of the rest of the regional forest firefighters who "risk their lives to preserve the natural and rural environment and guarantee our safety."

Likewise, several organizations such as the UME or the Spanish Association of Forestry and Environmental Agents have shown their condolences for what happened on their social networks.
