The Civil Guard has investigated a driver who drove in the wrong direction on the AS-17 when trying to escape from the agents. The person under investigation was traveling without the mandatory insurance and without being in possession of a driving license and, ignoring the acoustic and light signals, the driver entered the highway in the opposite direction.
In a press release, the Civil Guard explained this Thursday that the incident occurred in the middle of last month, when a patrol from the Oviedo Traffic Detachment was carrying out surveillance work on the AS-17 highway in the vicinity of the Lugo Technology Park. from Llanera. During their work, they electronically screened one of the vehicles circulating on the highway, verifying that it did not have mandatory insurance in force.
The patrol made use of the acoustic and light devices of the official vehicle to stop the vehicle, but the driver, despite clearly observing the agents' signals, decided to disobey the instructions and make a sudden u-turn maneuver and get up. to the highway coming from the Silvota industrial estate in the Riaño direction, traveling in the opposite direction to the stipulated one.
During his escape, the man now under investigation endangered road safety by crossing paths with seven vehicles that were traveling correctly. These users had to carry out evasion maneuvers to avoid the frontal collision.
The investigation carried out by the Civil Guard was especially complex because the vehicle had been transferred between individuals and the registration procedures had not been carried out at the General Directorate of Traffic.
Despite this, members of the Road Safety Investigation Unit (UNIS) of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Asturias, confirmed the identity of the driver and located him in Pola de Laviana, proceeding to take a statement from him as being investigated and not arrested for the commission of crimes against road safety.
