A celebration open to Barcelona society

On February 5, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona was the venue chosen by the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 to officially inaugurate the commemorative events of the entity's 125th Anniversary.

In his opening speech, Jordi Cambra, president of the club, expressed the importance of the validity of the values that have always defined the entity since its foundation as the main driving force of its trajectory and its future projection: honesty, rigor, effort , respect for rivals, passion, work, responsibility, strategy, solidarity, not giving up seeking constant improvement and, in the times we live in, firmly betting on sustainability.

Likewise, on behalf of the Board of Directors, Jordi Cambra expressed his sincere gratitude to the people who have turned us into an international reference club, and expressed clear optimism and confidence that the young people will continue with this tradition of continuing to build the RCTB. 1899 as a school of life, a way for tennis to make us better people.

One of the fundamental premises with which the backbone of the events scheduled for this 125th Anniversary has been developed has been to open the RCTB-1899 to the city of Barcelona. In this sense, and with a first staging in a jewel of the city such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the almost century-old tradition has been maintained with the Escola Massana for the design of the official poster for the anniversary, in addition to betting on young artists with scholarships to develop different works with tennis as an inspiring motive.

When we talk about Barcelona, this 125th Anniversary also includes synergies with entities of international repercussion such as the Board of Trustees of the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia or the Pau Casals Foundation.

Obviously, in the sporting field, the RCTB-1899 has scheduled various activities throughout the season. Logically, the 71st edition of the Conde de Godó Trophy is once again the city's great spring festival, and the epicenter throughout the week of initiatives with other Barcelona sports and social entities, the media, and, most especially, with a faithful fans that support us year after year and that this season sold out the seats with a lead time never seen before.

Likewise, in a nod to the past, the club has scheduled collaborations with two towns closely linked to the entity: Sitges and S'Agaró. Both had RCT Barcelona-1899 as the promoter and organizer of their international tournaments a century ago. For this reason, the club has collaborated with this historic initiative of the Sitges International Vintage Car Rally, which unites Barcelona with the town of Garraf, and has planned a day of tennis and party for the youngest on the slopes of Hostal La Gavina de S'Agaró, which is also in luck as it marks one century since its foundation.

In the month of May, the club will host the members of the Association of Tennis Collectors, who will hold their Annual Congress in our facilities in which true fans of our sport will show some of their 'relics' and develop various presentations related to their passion. for preserving the history of racket sport.

Logically, the 125th Anniversary will have a strong impact on the program of events in the life of the entity. Both its social championships, its annual musical days, and the inter-club competitions will have a marked accent of special celebration. In this sense, two new initiatives have been planned. Firstly, a Gala Social Dinner at the National Museum of Art of Catalonia in which the member will have a prominent role. Secondly, and in collaboration with the large representation of the Club's Peñas, a day of Fiesta Mayor in which to share various recreational activities.

Finally, and in response to the club's commitment to solidarity, the Fundació Tennis Barcelona is designing events and collaborations to celebrate the anniversary. In this sense, together with the National Organization of the Spanish Blind (ONCE), a special 125th Anniversary coupon was put on sale last Thursday.

As a closing of the actions planned for 2024, the club is working together with La Marató de TV-3 in a solidarity event in order to support this great initiative that is so widely accepted in society.
