43% of tobacco cessation patients in the Pyrenees have stopped smoking

This year, from January to October, a total of 397 patients have undergone the six tobacco cessation consultations in the Pyrenees. Of these, 43% have stopped smoking and 45% are in the maintenance phase without tobacco, with the help of drugs. 12% of users have abandoned the query without success.

The primary care of the Alt Pirineu and Aran incorporated last year a total of six consultations strictly dedicated to smoking cessation in the towns of Tremp, La Pobla de Segur, Sort y Esterri d'Àneu, Pont de Suert, Oliana and la Seu of Urgell

These tobacco cessation consultations are made up of a nursing professional and a doctor from the CAP itself.

As a complement to the consultation, group activities are also organized with tobacco references and emotional well-being professionals from each CAP.

All references to enable consultation in the CAP have been trained with various courses provided by the Public Health Agency of Catalonia and receive continuous training on newly incorporated pharmacological treatments and innovative techniques, to support users who want to abandon tobacco addiction.

The professionals have assured that the results "are gratifying" and that the users "constantly appreciate the support received", since the relationship is maintained for a year, via face-to-face or telephone, until they reach 12 months without smoking and move on to consider ex-smoking patients.
