21 political parties are competing for the Catalan vote on May 12

A total of 21 political parties will compete on May 12 in the Catalan elections, whose campaign started last midnight agitated by the announcement, the day before, of the possible resignation of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez. They are two less than in the previous elections, held in 2021, when the Catalans were able to choose between 23 parties. However, up to 9 groups that did not present three years ago do so on this occasion.

On this occasion, 16 of those 21 parties or coalitions have presented lists in the four constituencies, including all those that have been represented in the Parliament in the last legislature. One party, the National Front of Catalonia, has formalized candidacies in three provinces (it has not done so in Girona), Izquierda por España is presenting itself in two demarcations (Barcelona and Tarragona) and the remaining three are: Political Restart, Family and Life and Convergents. among the possible options in a single province, the first two in Barcelona and the third in Tarragona.

The formations that were not in the elections three years ago are the Frente Obrero, the Partit Animalista amb el Medi Ambient (Pacma), the Partit Univers Català, Reinicio Político, Familia y Vida, Izquierda por España, Aliança Catalana, Alhora and Convergents . Some of them already have experience in previous Catalan elections and others are making their debut in this contest, as is the case of Aliança Catalana, the party headed by the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, to which some polls grant the possibility of obtaining a seat on May 12.

The political formations that will be in the four provinces are: PSC, Comunes, ERC, PP, Vox, Frente Obrero, Ciudadanos, Pacma, Partic Comunista dels Treballadors de Catalunya, CUP, Partit Univers Català, Junts Carles Puigdemont per Catalunya, Per un Món plus Just, Aliança Catalana, Alhora and Zero Cuts.
