20 galleries and more than 50 young artists participate in the new edition of Art Nou in Barcelona

The eleventh edition of the Emerging Art Festival kicks off in a total of 37 locations in Barcelona and in L'Hospitalet del Llobregat, between galleries and self-managed youth spaces.

This is an opportunity to give young creators a chance, as explained by the coordinator of the Art Nou association, Pilar Cruz, during the opening of the exhibition: "We want to vindicate galleries as a meeting space and help artists giving visibility to emerging art”.

The opening of the festival took place in the Suburbia Contemporary gallery, where the Nestor Ceniceros exhibition (Durango, Mexico, 1994) is located. The young artist explores public spaces where collective interactions take place: nightclubs, streets or other places that can be considered meeting places.

The other exhibitions deal with very diverse topics, some of which are directly related to current social and cultural events, as well as being at the center of the concerns of many young people. These are gender identity, sexual orientation, race or colonialism. Agnes Essonti Luque (Barcelona, 1996) creates a reflective scenario around identity, raciality and belonging to a place through photos, videos and installations at Beta a Kale fo ma on Mapane, at Tangent Projects. Seulbi Kim (Seoul, 1986) and Christian Tenefrance Illi (Stuttgart, 1987) focus on understanding the impact of colonialism through images and photographs of undocumented Filipino workers in Barcelona at H2O Gallery.

The exhibitions and activities are free and have the support of the Barcelona City Council, the L'Hospitalet City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and public cultural entities. The samples will be visible until September in galleries such as Bombon Projects, 3 Punts Galería, Sala Parés, LAB 36 or Suburbia Contemporary.
