Friends and followers say goodbye to Pablo Milanés

The Casa de América in Madrid today hosts the funeral chapel of the Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés (Bayamo, 1945), who died at the age of 79 in the early hours of Tuesday in the capital after a long oncohematological illness.

Friends, family and followers of the singer can say their last goodbye -between 10:30 and 15:30- to one of the most recognized voices of Cuban music, founder and creator of the sound of Nueva Trova.

Milanés had been suffering from a long illness for a long time that forced him to settle in Madrid at the end of 2017 in order to receive non-existent treatment in his country. His health situation worsened in recent months and he had been hospitalized for more than a week, as his relatives have made public.

With everything, despite not being in the best of health, Milanés did not stop composing and continued to take to the stage, with Cubans being his favourites. In fact, his last concert there was in Havana last summer.

For the next few months he had concerts planned in Pamplona, Mexico City and Santo Domingo, which he had to postpone due to his delicate state of health.

His death has provoked innumerable reactions of condolence from artists and personalities linked to culture, political leaders and heads of government.
