Barr stated that when he entered Trump's Oval Office, the conversation quickly became a back-and-forth between Barr and Trump over the allegations of widespread fraud.
Barr stated that Trump had become "madder than madder". Barr suggested that he could resign if Trump wasn't happy with his work.
"I said, "Look, Mr. President. I know that you are unhappy with me." I am happy to submit my resignation. Boom, he hit his desk and said, accepted," Barr remembered. "As I was leaving the White House, two lawyers from the government came up to the window and said, 'The president doesn’t want you leave.'
Barr describes this as just one of many events in his new book "One Damn Thing After Another": Memoirs from an Attorney General, which was released on Tuesday.
Barr stated that he reluctantly agreed to stay after the encounter even though he knew Trump was in a bad place.
He said, "I didn’t leave there because I wanted to watch how this was unfolding and I thought that I could continue looking at these claims to make sure that people understood most of what was being presented simply wasn’t true."
Barr answered the question "Would you vote for Trump" if he ran for office in 2024.
He said, "I wouldn't work with him, If I were faced with that choice." "I hope that I am not forced to make that choice. "I don't believe the party will turn in that direction."
In December 2020, Barr resigned. Since then, he has not spoken with Trump and stated that he would not like to have another conversation.
