Gabriel Rufián, on the sedition reform: "People are not interested"

The spokesman for the Republican group in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has refused to assess the information offered this Monday by the newspaper El País on the reform of the crime of sedition, but has also warned that people are not interested in these debates.

"People are super disconnected from issues that we talk about on a daily basis," lamented the ERC candidate for mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, who has shown his "enormous" concern about this disconnection with people. "We must be very aware that we often talk about things that people are not interested in," said the Republican, questioned in La 2 about the reform of the crime of sedition that some Republican voices demand to give their support to the general budgets of the State of 2023.

"Right now there are many people who are crowded in Rodalies and are absolutely not interested in what we talk about," warned the Republican spokesman, who believes that people "are much more concerned about their mortgage, what they pay at the supermarket, for what he charges, for the war or for the weather".

In this sense, Rufián has refused to value the information from the newspaper El País, which assures that the Government would be willing to halve the penalties for sedition, and has branded it a "leak". The Republican leader has stressed that "we must not enter this media roller coaster" and has accused the PSOE of "constantly speaking and filtering".

In any case, Rufián has not wanted to link the sedition reform with his group's support for the 2023 budgets and has pointed out that "there is still a long way to go to improve them", although, after acknowledging that reforming sedition is a good initiative " because it promotes the democratization of the State, since it is an anachronistic crime", he has warned that it does not "solve the conflict" to the extent that the majority of judicial cases opened in Catalonia by the procés are not related to said crime.

"The only condition for ERC is to move forward, improve budgets at a social level and advance in the political conflict", insisted the head of the ERC in Madrid, who has defended that the resignation of the Republicans to present an amendment to the entire of the accounts "gives time and space to improve them". In this sense, he has opined that the PGE are "the main lever" to pressure the PSOE and has advocated negotiating them.

Regarding the budgets of the Generalitat, Rufián has advocated speaking with everyone but has reiterated his reservations about agreeing the accounts with the PSC, which he has justified by "the scorched earth" between the two formations due to the attitude of the Catalan socialists during 155 and the imprisonment of the procés prisoners, for which they have come to be compared with the Cs of Inés Arrimadas.

In any case, he has insisted on demanding Junts' support for the accounts and has tried to play down a possible budget extension. "It is not understood that until 48 hours ago you made some budgets and that now, simply because you are not in the Government, you do not support them", he has criticized the former partners of Junts who refuse to support the budgets after leaving the Government.
