The Queen Sofia Foundation has reacted, with the urgent shipment of medicines and economic aid, to the tragedy experienced by the inhabitants of Turkey and Syria affected by the earthquakes. The board of trustees of the entity, which is chaired by the King's mother, has also approved an additional fund of 100,000 euros for future actions in the area, as well as the holding of a concert to benefit those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, within of the 72nd edition of the Granada Festival to be held in June.

Salesian Missions has supported emergency situations caused by natural disasters for years, as well as those caused by armed conflicts.

The Queen Sofia Foundation is committed to supporting projects where major catastrophes occur, such as those suffered in recent decades by hurricane "Mitch" in 2001, the tsunami in Southeast Asia at the end of 2004, the earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005, the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, or the typhoon "Haiyan" in the Philippine archipelago in November 2013.
