Paul Pelosi, the husband of the president of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has been "violently assaulted" after a home invasion in the couple's house in California during the early hours of Friday, according to informed Drew Hammill, spokesman for the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

"The assailant is in custody and the motive for the attack is under investigation," the Democrat's office said in a statement. "Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. The president was not in San Francisco at the time." And they added: "The spokeswoman and her family are grateful to the emergency personnel and medical professionals, and request privacy at this time."

It is not the first time that Nancy Pelosi's husband is in the news. Paul Pelosi, 82, was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after being involved in a car accident in May.

The husband of the Speaker of the House of Representatives was sentenced to perform eight hours of community service and pay a fine of 5,000 dollars to restitute the damages caused to the driver of the vehicle he collided with, as well as another 2,000 dollars to the court.

The judge in the case sentenced Pelosi to five days in jail that she will not have to serve, since the hours she spent in the dungeon after the accident were deducted and because the judge considered that she had behaved well.

Pelosi just returned to Washington this week from a security conference in Europe and is scheduled to attend a defense conference Saturday night with Vice President Kamala Harris.

While the circumstances of the attack are unclear, the incident raises additional questions about the safety of members of Congress and their families, as threats to lawmakers are at an all-time high nearly two years after the Capitol storming.
