Ian Mackay closes his social networks after the hatred received by the tragic ending in Castalia

A tragic end yesterday left Deportivo with no options to continue fighting for promotion and the great highlight of the night was the Galician goalkeeper Ian Mackay. The hatred poured out on the sportsman has been such that Mackay has ended up deleting himself from social networks. The Deportivo coach and several teammates have publicly shown their support for the goalkeeper who did not have the best day for him. The 1-0 draw for Castellón came from an error in Mackay's release of the ball and the game got completely out of hand when he committed an inexplicable attack on Manu Sánchez that caused him to be sent off.

Frustrated at having to continue another year in the First Federation, dozens of fans turned Mackay into the object of their anger, to the point of motivating the footballer's abandonment of Twitter. To try to calm the waters, this morning the Deportivo coach, Rubén de la Barrera, has shared a message on his social networks, accompanied by an image of Ian Mackay: "I would return one and a million more times, not to be promoted with this equipment! Eternal thanks for what you have made me feel in this last month! Fucked result, but above all, PEOPLE. And with PEOPLE like YOU, wherever it is needed. Infinite hug to you, and all your family.

His teammate Lucas Pérez also did it right after the game in the mixed zone: “We shouldn't blame him. He has saved us many times. I myself have missed goals, I have missed passes... head up. I love Mackay very much and I look forward to it with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm. He will return with desire and strength, he is the first to work ”. Borja Granero, until January a teammate at Deportivo de Mackay, now in the ranks of Castellón, did not skimp on words of support for the goalkeeper either: “I have not had the option of speaking with him, but we have a great relationship. Throughout the year he has been one of the best on the team. He's had a bad day and I hurt so bad for him. I know few colleagues who are more from Dépor. I know for the moment that it must be happening, I don't even want to imagine it, but I'm sure he'll get up ”.

These are not being easy hours for this sportsman from cradle. Trained in Abegondo, Mackay made his debut with the first team in 2015. At the age of 19, his pulse did not tremble when he was chosen to defend Deportivo's goal at the Teresa Herrera against AC Milan, a trophy that the Galicians would conquer thanks to a memorable performance of the young goalkeeper who was being talked about so much in Coruña.

After a long career, in 2019 he was promoted to Segunda with Sabadell and in June 2021 he returned home, to Deportivo. He had many other offers in better categories and more economically attractive, but Mackay was romantic and opted for his Deportivo. Yesterday will be one of the black days for the goalkeeper with a Scottish father and a Galician mother, but he still has a year left on his contract to win back the trust and affection of the fans.
