FIFA The Best 2024 Awards: nominees, schedule and where to watch the gala

This Monday, January 15, the British capital, London, will dress up to host the eighth edition of The Best FIFA Awards. The expectation reaches its peak with the nomination of three big stars: Leo Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, who will compete for the coveted award for best player of the last year.

The ceremony, which will take place in the impressive Eventim Apollo auditorium in London, will begin at 7:30 p.m., marking the beginning of an evening that will recognize excellence in various categories of world football. A total of nine individual awards, including best male and female player, best goalkeeper and best goalkeeper, will be awarded to the outstanding protagonists of international football.

In the men's category, attention is focused on the battle between Haaland and Mbappé, who seek to dethrone Leo Messi, current winner and third finalist this year. Haaland, after his treble with Manchester City in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, is presented as the favorite to win the title for best player.

In the women's field, Aitana Bonmatí and Jenni Hermoso, after winning the first World Cup in the history of Spanish women's football, are competing for the title with Real Madrid player Linda Caicedo. The expectation rests on Bonmatí, current Ballon d'Or winner and key player in Barcelona.

In the best coach category, Pep Guardiola, Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti emerge as the main contenders. Guardiola, after winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League with Manchester City, leads the race to win the award.

Recognition of women's football is also present, with Jonatan Giraldez, Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman competing for the title of best coach. In addition, outstanding goalkeepers such as Thibaut Courtois and Ederson, as well as goalkeepers such as Cata Coll and Mary Earps, also hope to be recognized in their respective categories.

FIFA will present a total of eleven awards during the gala, including the Puskas Award for best goal, the FIFA FIFPRO World 11 for men and women, the FIFA Fair Play Award and the FIFA Fan Award. The ceremony is presented as the highlight for players and coaches around the world.

Spaniards like Rodrigo Hernández could see their efforts recognized, since he is nominated among the 23 players in the FIFPRO ideal eleven.
