Cádiz needs penalties to beat Badalona Futur

Cádiz overcame the first round of the Copa del Rey with more suffering than expected after beating Badalona Futur, from the Second Federation, on penalties (2-4) this Wednesday in the town of Vic, home of the Catalan team's matches. , with a key save from Cadista goalkeeper David Gil.

Badalona Futur, formerly Llagostera, classified as a semi-finalist in the Federation Cup, made Sergio González's team suffer to achieve their third victory of the season in twelve games.

The match began with alternatives in initiative and possession. Cádiz presented a very offensive eleven, but their three forwards, Álvaro Negredo, Maxi Gómez and Guardiola, very isolated and very controlled, were too far from the three midfielders, Escalante, Jose Mari and Álex.

Sergio González's team, with five starting players for the first time this season and two debutants (Adrián Miranda and Julio Cabrera), could not find holes in the Badalona Futur defense, one of the best in the Second Federation.

He only had one in the entire first half. Shortly before the 15th minute, Zaldua sent a great cross into the area and Negredo, in a clear scoring situation, headed wide from the edge of the small area, far from the goal.

Badalona Futur did not suffer and began to look dangerously into the rival area. He scored the goal after half an hour of play, in a quick transition after a visitor's loss that ended in a pass from Jaume Pascual that left Sergio Cortés alone, but he forgave David Gil and the Madrid goalkeeper rejected his shot for a corner.

The game was leaning towards the Catalan side as it approached half-time, against a Cádiz team that was uncomfortable on Vic's artificial grass and frustrated for not knowing how to impose its superiority. Within a minute Sergio's team had vehemently demanded a penalty on Zaldua.

The match followed the same script after passing through the locker room, with a Badalona Futur that, as its coach, Ferran Costa, had anticipated in the previous match, played face to face against Cádiz and with the challenge of not noticing the difference in categories.

Before the hour mark Sergio already acted to seek the reaction of his team with the entry of Koumané and Robert Navarro to play between the lines and unite the midfield and the forward line. Badalona Futur responded with two new warnings, to cross shots from Valverde.

Cádiz improved with the verticality of Robert Navarro, the protagonist of two clear chances. In the first, Ortiz Arias whistled offside after a great combination with Guardiola and in the second, the local goalkeeper, Ortega, beat the attacker in one-on-one play.

The visitors, focused on attack in the last minutes, were also able to avoid extra time on a double occasion by Zaldua and Navarro and above all with a great header from Chris Ramos to a Lucas Pires center from the left that Ortega providedntially deflected

After a first part of the extra time without history, with a Cádiz more willful than successful, the second started with the expulsion of the local Segura for a double warning.

Cádiz came close to scoring with a shot from Zaldua that went close to Ortega's left post, a new header from Chris Ramos and a cross from Pires, the umpteenth, which Escalante missed by centimeters.

In the end Badalona Futur even had a chance to win before penalties. Peque Polo shot hard from the edge of the area, but his shot went slightly wide.

In the penalty shootout Maxi Gómez, Robert Navarro, Koumané and Lucas Pires converted their maximum penalties, while Zourdine shot up in the second local penalty and David Gil saved the fourth and final one, from Xiker, to end Badalona Futur's resistance and get a pass to the second round. EFE
