Alonso: "Many people stop me on the street and thank me"

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, of Aston Martin, has highlighted his desire to achieve his first victory in Formula 1 in more than ten years and has explained that everything he does is because he thinks he is going to win.

"If I'm going to play a game of tennis or soccer and I think my rival is better than me or is going to beat me, I don't go," he said in an interview with DAZN.

The Asturian two-time world champion has been ambitious and confident and, although he was very close to achieving his 33rd victory in Formula 1 in Monaco, and in Canada as well, he admits that he finds it difficult. "I don't think that by wanting it more it will come and I don't think there is a real possibility of achieving it this year, but there will always be a race that can happen" he explained.

The man from Oviedo also stated that his competitiveness is very much in line with that of the English team. “The philosophy at Aston Martin is to seek excellence in everything you do, because to make a difference and have a little more performance than all your rivals you need to look for something more,” he declared.

Alonso added that he is aware of the revolution it has caused in social networks, and defends that it is "an error not to join" this digital wave. Although the phenomenon does not only stay on the Internet according to him: "There are many people who stop me on the street and thank me and I forget if I have done them a favor".

The 'Alonsomanía' will return on the last weekend of August with the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, where both Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will try to answer the hegemony of the Dutchman Max Verstappen, winner of the last eight races.
