The former Barcelona player and current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto'o, would be involved in various cases of match-fixing, abuse of power, physical threats, incitement to violence and dissemination of false information, according to information published in The Athletic.
The American media has accessed different WhatsApp messages, emails, letters and audio recordings thanks to a former executive of the Cameroonian organization, which would support the accusations against the former soccer player. Likewise, said media claims to have a document with more than 70 pieces of evidence detailing the claims against Eto'o and four other Fecafoot officials.
The complaint to which they have had access explains that Eto'o paid one of his associates a bribe of 1,200 pounds to begin the "dirty work" against Njalla Quan Junior, former vice president of Fecafoot. On the other hand, the former vice president affirms that in the first leg of the Njalla Quan Sports Academy (NQSA) match against Kumba City FC the referees received direct instructions from Eto'o himself. Eto'o would also be heard in a recording suggesting that he could suspend a referee if necessary.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is investigating the incident but emphasizes that Eto'o "is presumed innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise." Eto'o was already involved in another controversy last year. Then, Erika Do Rosario Nieves, recognized daughter of the former Cameroonian soccer player, filed a complaint in which she requested a year in prison for her father for non-payment of alimony. Finally, both parties reached an agreement and Eto'o paid his daughter about 90,000 euros.
