A team of volunteers has built the world's largest ice disk in Maine, in the northern United States, breaking the world record in a category unknown to most of the population: the largest ice carousel in history.

The enormous piece, which has a diameter of 541 meters (1,776 feet), is estimated to weigh approximately 146,000 tons, quite an achievement. As reported by the Associated Press, those in charge of carrying out this milestone are known as the Ice Busters, who have cut some thirty inches thick in the ice, creating a perfect circle “almost six football fields wide”.

This entertainment has become popular in colder areas such as Finland or some of the colder states in North America, such as Minnesota and Maine. John Mazo, coordinator of the Ice Busters, affirms that it is a "friendly competition", which is why a World Ice Carousel Association has even been created. Minnesota, a state bordering Canada, has countless options to beat the record again by being considered the "land of 10,000 lakes."

Following this incredible creation, the group powered the ice puck using ten outboard motors, a large propeller crew, and several wheeled vehicles. However, the record is already intended to be broken by other citizens of the area: Chuck Zwilling, from Little Falls (Minnesota) has promised to create an even bigger one.

Zwilling himself indicates that to build a piece of ice with these characteristics, the most necessary thing is to find the ideal lake. First, it must be large enough, unlike Green Prairie Fish Lake, which ended up being too small to support the planned 2,000-foot-diameter ice disk.
