Together, the State's historical debt with Catalonia amounts to 450,000 million

Together, the State's historic debt with Catalonia amounts to around 450,000 million euros. These are the conclusions of his group in the Parliament commission that has studied in recent months the structural breaches, the fiscal and investment deficit, as well as the underfunding of the Generalitat.

The party, after listening to the experts invited to this commission, calculates the total figure at 455,900 million euros over the last 33 years because it estimates that there is a 50,900 million deficit in infrastructure, 375,000 million in social items and 30,000 million in pensions

The parliamentary group led by Albert Batet, in the letter it registered, claims as one of the solutions the forgiveness of the debt of the Regional Liquidity Fund (FLA) - around 83,000 million euros -, and also requests the transfer of the powers to collect all taxes from the Catalan Tax Agency and that a "solidarity quota" be agreed between Catalonia and the State. Likewise, JxCat requires transfers in the area of pensions to create the Catalan Social Security Agency and receive 19% of the European Next Generation funds retroactively.

Regarding infrastructure, the post-convergents want the State to "compensate for the transfer of the settlement of infrastructure budgets that have not been fulfilled during the mandates of President Pedro Sánchez" and urge to "set deadlines to proceed with the payment" of the additional provision third of the Statute to execute pending infrastructures, such as the Mediterranean corridor.

In any case, this issue is not directly related to Sánchez's investiture and Carles Puigdemont's negotiations with the PSOE for the new legislature of the Congress of Deputies. The parliamentary commission in which these figures have been presented was promoted at the end of 2021. However, no one overlooks that all this is relevant and that the sovereignist formations have long been denouncing the underfunding of Catalonia by of the State, the investment deficit and the low budget execution, and who also aspire to introduce this folder into the current political negotiation.

The conclusions were presented last week and this Tuesday they were to be voted on with the rest of the reports presented by the other groups of the Catalan Chamber, but in the end it was decided to postpone the session. From the voting that is done on the conclusions of each group in the commission, with the points approved, a single report will be drawn up that must be validated by the full Parliament.
