The PSC, JxCat and the commons reveal the weakness of Aragonès' mandate

The Government of Pere Aragonès left Parliament scalded yesterday. The PSC, Junts per Catalunya and En Comú Podem put to a vote, in the framework of the general policy debate and each on their own, resolutions of censure of the Catalan Executive for its weak situation and for "the lack of trust" or for "the lack of leadership". The three groups managed to approve their resolutions by voting among themselves, without the need to transact them and with the only vote against, in all three cases, from the Esquerra Republicana group.

But beyond the specific resolutions on this matter, the plenary also approved resolutions on specific issues on which the ERC Government has reluctance, such as large economic projects - for example, the Hard Rock in the counties of Tarragona – and the infrastructures – fourth belt – or the Ryder Cup.

Thus, Junts emphasized that they had taken forward more than 90% of the points that had been submitted for consideration by the plenary, while ERC had barely reached 36%.

The text of censure to the Government of the PSC and JxCat presented a practically identical body, which states "the lack of confidence of the majority of the Chamber in the Government of the Generalitat". The resolution of the commons, which went ahead with the support of all the groups with the exception of ERC, which voted against it, and the CUP, which abstained, highlights "the lack of leadership and initiative legislative" of the Government, at the same time demanding that Aragonès present a proposal for the Generalitat's budget for 2024 with the aim of it coming into effect on January 1.

During the interventions, the parliamentary spokeswoman of the PSC, Alicia Romero, and that of JxCat, Mònica Sales, emphasized this circumstance, beyond the discrepancy between socialists and post-convergents regarding the political debate on amnesty and self-determination, which also had its place in this general policy debate.

Romero criticized the Republicans for not detailing any economic amount in their proposals and for always talking about "consolidating, enhancing, increasing..." without detailing how much money each aspect entails. "They repeat proposals and things that have already been approved", the socialist deputy scolded them. Sales, for his part, drew on the usual "solvency and independence" that he attributes to his space. David Cid, spokesman for the commons, pointed out that Aragonès's is a "procedural" Government that "neither excites nor inspires", and that it has a "lack of leadership and political initiative", as well as an inability "to meet and execute the budget".

The answer on the part of the Republicans was given by Marta Vilalta. "It is curious that they point out the Government as not legitimate to govern, but say nothing about the Barcelona City Council, in which Jaume Collboni governs with 10 councilors out of 41", he quipped, addressing the PSC.
