ERC is spreading suspicions about the PSC candidate for the parliamentary elections, Salvador Illa. The socialist appeared yesterday at the congressional commission of inquiry into the fraudulent purchase of masks, in what is known as the Koldo case. Laura Vilagrà, vice-president of the Government, was the first to open fire yesterday morning on La Xarxa: "He has shadows of doubts that I hope he resolves, because a president of the Generalitat cannot have any shadow of doubt of corruption on him". Oriol Junqueras did it later, in a press conference and assured that if links of the former Minister of Health with "corruption" were proven, "a red line" would be drawn for any pact.
Junqueras avoided answering time and time again which pacts his formation would be open to after the May 12 elections. He did not clarify his position with either Junts or the PSC. He only dared to rule out any kind of agreement when he was asked about the possibility of Illa ending up splashed by the Koldo case. He did it, moreover, insisting that "Esquerra is a party with 93 years of history and no case of corruption".
"We are our values and our actions (...), and for us the fight against corruption is a value, and surely everyone can imagine how red this line must be for us", he affirmed the president of ERC.
With Junts, Junqueras was again ambiguous and avoided getting wet about any agreement with Carles Puigdemont. The republican noted that JxCat left the Government in October 2022. "For a country it is good to have a government as solid as it can be (...) and I think that most political parties in the world try to be responsible with the its society by not abandoning governments in times of difficulty, in times of crisis", Junqueras limited himself to saying about possible and future pacts after the elections. A responsibility that he also demanded of Junts in Parliament and reproached the post-convergents for not supporting the Generalitat's 2024 budget.
Junqueras also congratulated Bildu for its results on Sunday in the Euskadi elections. For the republican, that the Abertzale left managed to tie seats with the PNB "is historic" and he assured that it is the result of the will of Basque society "to advance towards national fullness and independence and in social policies, two goals that ERC shares".
