The Bureau of the Parliament meets after receiving the notification from the Electoral Board about Borràs

The Bureau of the Parliament has met urgently this afternoon after receiving the notification from the Central Electoral Board (JEC) in which the institution is informed that the credentials of deputy of the president of Junts per Catalunya, Laura Borràs, have been revoked.

In the resolution of the administrative body, which acts as electoral arbitrator in the absence of an autonomous electoral union, it is also agreed to issue the credential to the next candidate on the JxCat list, that of the former deputy and leader of the Democrats of Catalonia, Antoni Castellà.

The decision of the JEC is firm and executive, although appeals can still be submitted to the Supreme Court, to the Contentious-Administrative Chamber and request precautionary measures, although the jurisprudence that set the precedents of the former president of the Generalitat Quim Torra and the Former CUP deputy Pau Juvillà is not in favor of the interests of Borràs. It is expected that both the Junts leader and the Parliament will appeal to the High Court, although in the Catalan Chamber they may not request precautionary measures.

The Electoral Board dismisses the allegations presented by both Borràs and the vice-president of the Parliament acting as president, the republican Alba Vergés.

Given that Borràs has been suspended as a deputy since last July by means of article 25.4 of the regulations of the Chamber, her relief will be displayed in what is published by the Official Bulletin of the Parliament of Catalonia (BOPC) and in the plenary session that is called to elect to a new president of the institution.

It remains to be seen what Vergés and the rest of the members of the governing body of the Parliament decide regarding the resolution of the JEC, if they apply it without further delay or if they allow a few days to pass until the vice president, since she performs the functions of president, is required. In the cases of Torra and Juvillà, due to the inaction of the Board, they ended up sending a request to the then presidents of the Chamber, to Roger Torrent in 2020 and to Borràs herself in 2022.
