Sánchez, "dismayed" by the death of the Spaniard kidnapped by Hamas

The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has conveyed his condolences to the family of Iván Illaramendi after his murder during the "terrorist attack" perpetrated by Hamas against Israel on October 7, which he has once again condemned.

"Dismayed by the death of Iván Illarramendi," Sánchez said in a message on X, the old Twitter. "I want to convey my affection and my most sincere condolences to his family and friends," he added.

"The Government of Spain reiterates its condemnation of the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7," Sánchez concluded, insisting once again on the need to "work to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East" in line with the message that has been transferred since the events occurred.

The mortal remains of Illarramendi and his wife, the Chilean Loren Garcovich, were identified this Tuesday by the Israeli authorities, as diplomatic sources from this country have informed Europa Press. Until now, it was believed that the two, who lived in a kibbutz near Gaza that had been attacked on October 7, had been kidnapped by Hamas.

Her death joins that of Maya Villalobo, who died the same day as the Hamas attack against Israel, although it was known days later. The young woman was doing her military service in the Israeli Army, since she had dual nationality, and she died in the military post where she was stationed very close to the border with Gaza.

The Israeli ambassador to Spain, Rodica Radian-Gordon, has also expressed her regret. "Our hearts are torn by the news of the brutal murder of Iván Illarramendi," she said in X. "Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this very difficult time. May their memories be blessed," she concluded.
