Sirera proposes that young people travel for free on the bus and metro in periods of economic crisis

The PP candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Daniel Sirera, has presented this Monday his proposals to improve public transport in the city, with the star measure that the bus and metro are free for young people during periods of economic crisis , since it is those under 25 who have the greatest difficulties, he assures, to make ends meet.

For Sirera, offering free public transport to a wider age group, for example up to 30 years of age, would be "demagogy", in the same way that he has ruled out that this measure can always be applied, although he would like to be able to do so and has promised to study it. In any case, what he has reiterated again is his total rejection of the connection of the two tram networks, the Trambesòs and the Trambaix, via the Diagonal: "It will create wild traffic jams", he has predicted.

On the other hand, Sirera does see the need for another tram, the historic Tramvia Blau, which connects Plaza Kennedy, where there is an FGC station, with Tibidabo, where it has its last stop at the foot of the funicular that ascends to the amusement park. Managed by TMB and inaugurated in 1901, it stopped working in 2018 due to infrastructure improvement works, but it has not yet been put back into service.

For Sirera, the reactivation of this tram line, whose use is eminently touristic and for this reason was not included in the integrated fare service, would attract more visitors to this area of Barcelona, which would spread tourism "like an oil stain" and encourage visits to facilities such as CosmoCaixa, the Collserola communications tower or the Fabra observatory, located on the Tibidado mountain.

To promote public transport in Barcelona, the PP candidate has opted for the complete electrification of all the vehicles that provide service on the bus network. And in terms of fares, Sirera proposes lowering the T-Casual, for ten trips, which currently costs 11.35 euros for one zone, to 7.95 euros. And it also proposes extending the subway hours until one in the morning on weekdays and that it works 24 hours from Friday until Sunday night.

In addition, the popular candidate has assured that he will carry out "the necessary reforms" so that all stations are accessible if he governs and has reiterated his commitment to building dissuasive parking lots -following the Anglo-Saxon park and ride model- in the metropolitan area, so that accesses to the capital do not collapse. For this, he considers it necessary to also improve the public transport network in the cities of the first crown.

These proposals to improve mobility require, according to Sirera, a "metropolitan leadership" that, in his opinion, the current mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, lacks, and also better management by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB ), in which they govern, has recalled the PP candidate, the four main parties that are competing for mayor, PSC, Junts, ERC and Barcelona en Comú.

Finally, Sirera has also proposed the installation of a transport museum in Barcelona, an old demand of many citizens who love history, as he has pointed out, and whose location has been reserved for Montjuïc, an area that the popular mayor wants to turn into a mountain of museums.
