Mazón eliminates the Inheritance and Donations tax in the Valencian Community

The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has announced this Friday the modification of the Inheritance and Donations Tax in the Valencian Community due to its little impact on the coffers of the Generalitat but its great impact on family economies. "We will never pay twice for the same thing again, we cannot maintain the death tax," he indicated.

Thus, the Consell will urgently modify the law to subsidize this tax by 99% in both cases, both donations and successions for children, spouses, fathers and mothers. A bonus that will take effect from May 28, the date of the elections. The inheritance and gift tax was already eliminated in practice in other regions governed by the PP, such as Madrid.

It is the first measure and the only one adopted in the plenary session of the new Valencian Government that has met this morning for the first time in the Archaeological Museum of Alicante. The popular leader has chosen his city and the prestigious cultural entity that these days receives thousands of visits due to the exhibition of the Warriors of Xian, to make his first big announcement, two days before the general elections.

During the explanation of this measure, which the PP included in its electoral program, Mazón has assured that during the last legislature there were 20,862 renunciations of inheritances in the Valencian Community, a phenomenon that in the first quarter of this year has increased by 24% compared to the previous year.

The head of the Consell has also highlighted the "low incidence" that these taxes have on income in the Generalitat, since the inheritance tax contributes "barely 1%" and the donation tax "barely 0.1%", a loss of income that will be compensated, in his opinion, with the reactivation of the economy that this and other measures will cause.

In addition to this agreement, the plenary session of the Consell has also given an account of the new structure of the Consellerias that was published on Thursday afternoon by the Official Gazette of the Generalitat. As Mazón himself announced, the number of regional secretaries goes from 55 to 46, which represents an annual saving of 800,000 euros.

This block, specified the president, "will mean a saving of approximately three million euros throughout this legislature, and the two most important parts still remain, that of general directorates, eventual and senior positions."

Asked if the holding of the general elections this Sunday has influenced the fact that no more measures and appointments are taken, he replied that the Consell has "an extraordinary interest in launching the new government as soon as possible in an orderly, well-worked and well-prepared manner, even technically and documentary-wise".

"The electoral call that has had to do with this measure is that of May 28" and to which "we owe ourselves", since it has stated that the popular will at the polls "very clearly decided that the inheritance tax and the donation tax had to go down in history in this Community".

Mazón has also ensured that decision-making on the rest of the measures announced by his government will speed up in the coming weeks and, if possible, the ordinary plenary sessions of the Consell will be complemented with extraordinary plenary sessions. The repeal of the tourist tax is one of the priorities on the agenda of his new government and "it won't take too long."

Regarding measures adopted recently, such as the cancellation of the Councilor for Culture of Borriana to cancel the municipal subscription of several magazines written in Catalan and the change of name of the Torrent Auditorium, which loses the nickname of 'Vicent Torrent', founder musician of Al Tall, Mazón has shielded himself in his "respect for municipal autonomy" to not show his opinion.

"I have been presiding over the Provincial Council (of Alicante) for four years and I know the respect for municipal autonomy that comes from the polls. I do not think it is up to a president of the Generalitat to assess the subscription or not of a specific town hall to a specific magazine. I do not think it is my job", he stated at a press conference after the first plenary session of the Consell, asked about both issues.
