Mas campaigns for Junts in Banyoles and coincides on the spot with Puigdemont

The former presidents of the Generalitat Artur Mas and Carles Puigdemont have attacked this Sunday against the ERC leader, Oriol Junqueras, for defending the pacts in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Figueres that seized the mayoralties from Junts and gave it to the Republicans.

The two ex-presidents have participated in an electoral act together at the Teatro Municipal de Banyoles (Girona), in which former councilor Josep Rull and other historic leaders of the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC) such as Irene Rigau have also taken part.

Regarding the governments of Sant Cugat and Figueres, Mas has stated: "Above all, that this does not happen. The governments of Figueras and Sant Cugat, made on the basis of alliances of parties that have lost the elections, are a disaster to be forgotten", has indicated.

To avoid this, Mas has called for participation in these elections on May 28, to "avoid the temptations" that other parties "end up coming together" if they do not end up "adding enough".

Although he has not explicitly asked for the vote for JxCat, a formation in which he is not a member but to which he is closer every day, Mas has called for mayors "who transmit positive ideas and projects."

"Do not let the places where things work well be lost. In moments of confusion or commotion, when you bring safe values, which give confidence, solvency is ensured. But you have to work to continue having it", Mas expressed, who has asked not to give the votes for insurance this 28M.

In a telematic intervention, Puigdemont has extended his criticism of Junqueras to the CUP as well, whom he has accused of "agreeing with 155", alluding to the PSC, in Sant Cugat del Vallès, a movement that took the mayoralty from Junts in 2019.

Puigdemont has linked ERC to a state strategy to "exclude Junts": "They no longer hide it, their priority is not the people of the municipality, it is not independence, it is to throw out JxCat."

"With this partisan obsession that has entered them, some spare no effort," said Puigdemont, who has called to go vote.

And it is that, for the former president, abstention is the other great enemy that Junts is facing in these elections: "Abstention is not a useful tool for independence."

"There are those who believe that what is best for the independence movement is abstention, burning everything to raise a new thing from the ashes that does not have any of those from before. This does not work," he resolved.

Artur Mas is balancing the campaign between JxCat and some PDeCAT lists, but his entourage argues that he does not support any formation, but specific candidates.

This is the case of Miquel Noguer, mayor of Banyoles who aspires to re-election, and who in his central campaign meeting has included the two ex-presidents, Josep Rull and ex-councillor Irene Rigau.

"We are all here together again. I don't know how you do it, but you always have us all," Mas ironized at the beginning of his speech

"Oriol Junqueras said that we must take an example from the left-wing governments that they have managed to create and mentioned Figueres and Sant Cugat", he said, and has sentenced: "Above all that this does not happen, because they have been made based on alliances of parties that lost the elections and are a disaster to be forgotten with consequences for the people".
