The spokesperson for EH Bildu in the Congress of Deputies, Mertxe Aizpurua, avoided describing the armed group Hamas, responsible for the attack on Israel, as a terrorist organization, and assured that the Basque group “is not going to get into the issue of using qualifiers.” .
Aizpurua met with representatives of Palestinian civil society and the Mundubat Foundation in the Congress of Deputies together with members of Sumar and Podemos, where he stated that "the approach that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict needs dialogue and negotiation as exit". The spokesperson stressed that "a fair solution also for the Palestinian people" is essential and that to determine a solution "we must return to the origins of the conflict."
Regarding Hamas, Aizpurua reiterated his refusal to describe the group as terrorists, and called for "putting things in their proper terms" pointing out that "Palestine is an occupied people." In this same area, he pointed out that "civilian victims can never be victims in a conflict of this type, no matter what type they are, whether Israeli or Palestinian."
The spokesperson concluded that "what is happening right now with the Palestinian people and with Gaza is a dramatic and terrible unsustainable situation that will last for a long time."
