Ayuso competes against herself in the regional elections in Madrid

Madrid has returned to the polls on March 28 for the third time in four years with elections that will determine the true state of form of an Isabel Díaz Ayuso who needs an absolute majority both to govern alone and to continue supporting her commitment to the ideological leadership of the PP in which, in the wake of the national president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, is already well placed.

On the left, Mónica García (Más Madrid) and Juan Lobato (PSOE) are fighting to establish themselves as the second force and hold the honorary position of opposition leader that, in the last elections, the Socialists lost after poor results that accelerated the march by Angel Gabilondo.

Further away, Rocío Monasterio (Vox) tries this Sunday to avoid the wear and tear that the small party of any coalition usually suffers after this last express legislature in which she has served as the sole and indispensable partner of the PP until last December when the differences between both formations prevented the approval of the 2023 Budgets.

The last question, and not for that reason less important, is that of United We Can. The purple party led by Alejandra Jacinto is literally risking its future by not having guaranteed, according to the polls, the 5% of votes that determines the entrance to the regional chamber.

If he enters, the sum of the left could even prevent Ayuso from obtaining an absolute majority. And if left without parliamentary representation, the result of Ayuso would be the least of it since the purple formation would disappear from the same community that saw it born.

Participation in the municipal elections at 6:00 p.m. stands in the Community of Madrid at 56.9%, which implies 5.6 points more than in the last elections, in 2019, according to the data offered on the page website of the Ministry of the Interior.

The regional government will offer the participation data in the case of the regional Assembly at 7:00 p.m., but those provided by the department led by Fernando Grande Marlaska regarding the municipal ones point to an increase compared to 2019.

Of the set of regions where elections are held this Sunday, Cantabria, Extremadura, La Rioja and Castilla-La Mancha are above the Community in terms of participation, exceeding 57%, although Madrid is the second where it grows the most over 2019, after the Valencian Community.

In this way, at 6:00 p.m., more than half of the voters had exercised their right to vote, 2.77 million people from Madrid, compared to the 2.4 million who had done so at the same time in 2019, on the 51st. 33% from the center. In the case of the capital, with two hours to go before the schools close, participation reaches 56.7%.
