Indonesian police are investigating the death of a woman who fell down an elevator shaft when the wrong door was opened at Medan city international airport and was not found until three days later.

The authorities have taken statements from at least a dozen people until Monday, said that day to the Metro TV channel the officer Kadek Cahyadi, from the Deli Serdang Regency Police, in the north of the island of Sumatra, -where the Kualanamu airport.

Believing that she was trapped, the Indonesian called a niece and began to get nervous, so she tried to force the entrance that she had used moments before, until she gave in and suddenly fell into the void, according to the story of the brother of the deceased, Raja Hasibuan, to Detik portal.

It was the brother who reported her missing, but it was not until the 27th that the woman's body was found after some people complained about the bad smell coming from the elevator.

Abyadi Siregar, director of the Office for the Ombudsman of the province of North Sumatra, whose capital is Medan, related the accident to an alleged "negligence in the maintenance of the facilities and infrastructure of the airport", in statements on Monday to the CNN Indonesian channel.
