Shakira, Karol G and Pablo Alborán, main candidates for the 2023 Latin Grammys

Seville is preparing to receive next week the big stars of Latin music who will participate in the 24th edition of the Latin Grammys, the first to cross the Atlantic to be held on European soil. The capital of Seville will host a gala where Colombians Shakira, Karol G and Camilo start as favorites with seven nominations along with Bizarrap, which has six. Pablo Alborán is the best-placed Spaniard, aspiring to five golden gramophones in a list that also includes the names of Quevedo, Alejandro Sanz, Arde Bogotá, Vanesa Martín, Manuel Carrasco and Rosalía, who in the previous edition of the awards was crowned for everything high thanks to the album Motomami, which received nine nominations and won four trophies.

The red carpet will be spread over the Seville Exhibition and Conference Center, where on Thursday night the winners of the 46 categories of the Latin Grammys will be announced in an evening presented by Sebastián Yatra, Danna Paola, Roselyn Sánchez and actress Paz Vega, an event that coincides with International Flamenco Day, a genre to which a special tribute will be paid at the premiere with the joint performance of the five nominees for best album in this category: Israel Fernández, Diego Guerrero, Omar Montes, Niña Pastori and Juanfe Pérez. Beyond flamenco, the gala will feature performances by top-level artists such as Rosalía, Maluma, Shakira, Rauw Alejandro, Pablo Alborán, Alejandro Sanz, David Guetta, Bizarrap and Sebastián Yatra himself, in a gala that can be followed from 10:30 p.m. through RTVE.

A little-known name, that of the Mexican composer and producer Edgar Barrera, leads the ranking of candidates with 13 nominations thanks to his collaborations with artists such as Maluma, Marc Anhony, Alejandro Sanz, Camilo, Bad Bunny, Camila Cabello, Chayanne or Christina Aguilera, participating in the nominations for record of the year, album of the year and song of the year. Posh credentials that, however, will hardly compete for prominence with the contenders for the main categories, such as album of the year, where Pablo Alborán (La C4arta Hoja), Paula Arenas (A Ciegas), Camilo (De interior pa) are nominated. Outside), Andrés Cepeda (Fourteenth), Juanes (Everyday Life), Karol G (Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful), Natalia Lafourcade (Of All the Flowers), Ricky Martin (Play), Fito Páez (Eadda9223) and Carlos Vives (Escalona Never had been recorded like this).

On the other hand, in the song of the year category, Shakira's presence stands out in three nominations, with Acróstico, TQG with Karol G and Bzrp Music sessions, Vol. 53, with the Argentine producer, who has six nominations. The Colombian singer will compete with Amigos by Pablo Alborán and María Becerra, Of all the flowers by Natalia Lafourcade, Ella dances alone by Eslabón Armado, NASA by Camilo and Alejandro Sanz, Brown eyes by Lasso, If you love me by Fonseca and Juan Luis Guerra and Un X100to by Bad Bunny.

The Spanish candidates are not among the most nominated with the exception of Pablo Alborán, eternal candidate for the gramophone after adding 24 nominations and no trophy. In this edition it aspires to record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, best pop vocal album and best pop song. Along with the man from Malaga, artists such as Rosalía will be in Seville, who aspires to the recording of the year for Despechá, Manu Carrasco competing for the best traditional pop vocal album with Corazón yarrow, Valeria Castro in the category of best singer-songwriter song for La Root, or the Murcians Arde Bogotá, who compete in the categories of Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for Cowboys de la A3 and Los Perros, respectively.

Another of the names of this edition will be Laura Pausini, who will receive the award for Person of the Year when she celebrates three decades of a career that has led to hits such as En Cambio No, Amores Stranges or Se fue, achieving sales of 70 million records since she won the victory at the 1993 San Remo festival. Together with the Italian singer, the Latin Grammys will honor Carmen Linares, Mijares, Arturo Sandoval, Simone, Soda Stereo and Ana Torroja.
