Cinema at 2 euros: who can benefit and when

Since this month of July, movie theaters are more accessible to the public, since the royal decree comes into force, which is part of the initiative of the Ministry of Culture to lower the price of movie tickets to two euros. The aim of this measure is to facilitate access to this cultural and leisure asset. The Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, was the one who announced at a press conference at the beginning of June that this discount would take effect in July. According to data from the ministry, it is estimated that around 9.5 million people will be able to benefit from this project.

This government measure to promote culture has a budget of 10 million euros, in which approximately 90% of Spanish cinemas have collaborated. From now on it is possible to enjoy any of the latest releases on the billboard, it will only be up to the attendees to choose their favorite movies.

The discount established by the government that facilitates access to cinemas for a price of two euros per ticket is intended for people over 65, since this is the audience that is intended to benefit. The main reasons put forward by the Ministry of Culture have to do with its intention to promote access to culture by people who are part of this age group. As well as avoiding a sedentary lifestyle on your part. This will also help movie theaters, which continue in their fight to recover after the effects caused by the pandemic in the industry.

It must be taken into account that only people over 65 years of age can benefit from this discount, which will only apply if tickets are purchased in person, that is, at the box office of the venue. For this, it will be necessary to provide an identification of the person, in order to prove their age. However, this offer cannot be combined with other types of discounts or bonuses. In addition, it can only be used during one day of the week.

Once the minimum requirements established by the Ministry of Culture have been met, all you have to do is choose a cinema that is affiliated with this initiative. Check the day the discount is active, go to the box office and choose which movie you want to watch. The process can be repeated weekly. A way to bring cinema and the latest releases closer to the elderly, as well as encourage them to leave home.
