María Reyes was crowned as Miss Spain in 1995 at the age of 19. That milestone changed her plans for her future, she was studying nursing at that time, and led her to become a benchmark for modeling in Spain, parading for renowned dressmakers on catwalks such as Barcelona and Madrid.
The young woman who was born in Gerona but lived almost all her youth in Soria saw her career as a model take off thanks to the famous pageant and her stage on the catwalks even took her internationally, working with firms such as Dior and Chanel.
From his stellar moment on television, Reyes became a celebrity on the Spanish scene. So much so, that during a vacation in Ibiza in 2002, the model experienced one of her worst moments. Interviú magazine published on its cover some images of her on the beach topless. The posed, published without permission, grabbed headlines in gossip magazines and all kinds of media and she, who felt that her privacy had been invaded, denounced the header.
The Supreme Court ruling upheld the magazine, which argued that the images of Reyes were of public interest and therefore should be able to be published even without authorization from the complainant. The case set a precedent and Reyes decided to leave the controversial episode behind.
Since then, the life of the miss has changed radically and despite the fact that she keeps great memories of that night that made her known throughout Spain, today she lives far from the industry.
After a few years working in the world of modeling, the model changed the catwalks for the microphone and the stages. Rock and roll is her passion and after going through groups like the French Nouvelle Vague, the indie formation Subterfuge and finally Meta, she is now working on her solo project.
