The healthy routines of Carlos III in his fight against cancer

The afternoon of April 26, 2024 has been a small scare for followers of the British monarchy. After hours of doubts and speculation, Buckingham Palace published a statement at 7:00 p.m. announcing the return of Charles III to the public agenda. Reassuring news after the rumors surrounding the Menai Bridge operation, designed to manage the monarch's funeral.

The figure of Charles III has been a source of questioning, doubts and even jokes through social networks for years, always surrounding his state of health and the possibility of not inheriting the throne of Elizabeth II. However, his majesty has made sure to be prepared for his moment through different habits. Whether dietary, physical or otherwise, the English king has taken care of himself in recent years.

One of the royal residences, Clarence House, published in 2018 a list with up to 70 curious facts about Charles III, then Prince of Wales. Among them, it stood out that his diet was restricted to only two meals a day, skipping the midday meal. Gordon Rayner, former royal correspondent for The Daily Telegraph, reported that Charles considered food a “luxury” that interfered with his busy schedule.

Julian Payne, the monarch's former press secretary, also spoke about this particularity. He claimed that Carlos used to make a copious breakfast and that his team carried energy bars to give him during the day. His breakfast consisted of seasonal fruit salad with seeds and tea, in addition to accompanying his other meals with rye or spelled bread, eggs and accompanying salads.

Among his favorite foods you can find the mushrooms and plums that he collected in the gardens of Highgrove House, as well as salmon, cheese and tea cakes. Similarly, Carlos III avoids eating meat and fish for two days of the week, while he avoids dairy products for the other three. He made this information known through an interview with the BBC in 2021, a year before his coronation.

Returning to this Friday's statement, the royal house has confirmed that His Majesty will resume the public agenda starting Tuesday, May 30, also noting that both he and Camilla will receive the emperors of Japan in Buckingham next June. The entity has celebrated the "encouraging progress" in its recovery from the tumor detected after prostate enlargement surgery.
